Enrichment Camps

Make your campers day a little more hands on, engaging, and extra fun!

Enjoy specialty programming in art, STEM, nature, and cheer! All enrichments will be lead by trained staff. Campers will not miss any field trips, swim days, or park days! Prices vary by camp. Be sure to check them out, we would love to have your camper there to join the FUN!

Additional fees are required. All camps are open to campers in our camps, or outside individuals. Parents will have to fill out ePact information if they are not enrolled in our camp.

Jr. Naturalist Nature Camp

Do you have what it takes to be a naturalist? Campers will immerse themselves in nature while earning their Jr. Naturalist badge. Get ready for a hands-on experience, full of fun crafts, games and STEM projects!

Each camper will receive a nature journal to complete during the camp. We will use the curriculum from Project Wild, Project Wet, and Project Learning Tree. Camps will be full of nature-based activities, including crafts, games, and everything hands-on!

 

 

Let's Get Wild!

June 13-17 (7:30 AM-4:30 PM)

Age: 6-12

Cost: $200 regular, $185 resident

Birds, mammals, and reptiles, OH MY! Is your camper interested in learning about animals in our ecosystem? Join Riley Kuhns, a certified Interpretive Naturalist in Arbuckle Acres Park this summer to get WILD in nature!

Campers will learn all about different animals in our ecosystems including mammals, reptiles/amphibians, birds, insects, and fish. An interpretive naturalist from Patoka Lake will come and do a live bird program! Hands-on activities include: dissecting owl pellets, doing daily nature hikes, daily nature journaling, making animal tracks, making bird feeders, animal touch table, exploring the butterfly garden, and creek stomping.

Beyond Nature

Campers will learn all about how to immerse themselves in nature. Themes include tree/leaf identification, wildflowers/invasive species, animals/habitats, recycling, navigation, and water/soil. Guest speakers include two USDA state biologists to talk about animals, their habitats, and water/soil quality. They will be bringing hands on activities for the kids. Some of the other hands on activities include: leaf rubbing crafts, flower dissection, invasive species removal in the park, daily nature hikes, animal touch table, geocaching, trash pick up, and creek stomping.

BrickLAB Brain Builders

June 6, 7, 9, 8 AM – 12 PM

Let’s build better brains! Using bricks to enhance hands-on learning, BrickLAB Brain Builders engages students through extraordinary science and engineering challenges. Whether they’re using logic to determine patterns, problem-solving to construct unique designs, or translating abstract ideas into concrete models, this collaborative, social-emotional learning program is a sure-fire way to introduce interactive STEM learning into any environment.

Capture imaginations with this STEAM enrichment program! From Jack and the Beanstalk to the golden touch of King Midas, BrickLAB Magic Beans brings fairy tales to life through thrilling engineering, language arts, and collaborative communication activities.

Sports Science

June 20, 21, 23 (8 AM – 12 PM)

Grades: 1-3 (ages 5-10)

With near-perfect pitches, swings, kicks, strokes, and sprints, an athlete’s skills come down to countless hours of practice and a whole lot of science. Designed to excite students by bringing STEM into their favorite activities, this program thrives on action-packed learning experiences. Each day, learners investigate the mechanics of a different movement, connecting STEM concepts, like force, motion, and the influence of gravity, to the movement of their own bodies. What does friction have to do with soccer? Why would a football player need to know about unbalanced forces? How would an Olympian hold up against a kangaroo in the long jump? Answer these questions and so much more in Sports Science!

Ocean Exploration

June 27, 28, 30 (8 AM – 12 PM)
Grades: 4-6 (ages 9-16)

In this incredible program, students journey from the tropics to the poles, inspect arctic food webs, simulate coral reef adaptations, and survey everything from the great river deltas to the Mariana Trench. They collaborate to bring the California sea otter back from the brink of extinction and track great white sharks across the open ocean, learning and answering important sea-dwelling questions about the variety of the oceans and the differences in ecosystems.

Claymation

July 11, 12, 14 (8 AM – 12 PM)

Grades: 4-8 (ages 9-16)

What do Wallace and Gromit, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and James and the Giant Peach all have in common? They’re Claymation characters who have captivated the world with the magical realities they bring to life! Tap into the incredible practice of stop-motion film production and learn the technique from the ground up. Claymation contains everything students need to create their own, individual movies, including top-quality clay, fun-to-use software, adorable cameras, and an amazing curriculum that turns anyone into a filmmaker. Through cumulative daily projects, teamwork, technological literacy, and a little bit of movie-making magic, you’re sure to win awards at the film festival held on the last day of camp!

July 18, 19, 21 (8 AM – 12 PM)

Grades: 6-8 (12-16)

We are calling all STEAM champions! In this action-packed Enrichment Program, Students channel their inner competitive spirit to complete 60-second challenges that reinforce specific STEM principles. From exploring energy conservation by rolling marbles over the tape to understanding the power of air pressure by making cups fly, each day, learners utilize household items and micro-challenges to demonstrate the expansive world of STEM.

As the challenges in 60 Seconds or Less become progressively more difficult, students need to think fast, move quickly and apply the real-world principles they’ve learned in order to earn the honor of being called a true STEM champion!

Children's Art Classes

Castles, Art, and Storytime Theatre

June 6-10 (9 AM – 3 PM)

Travel back in time to the days of medieval castles and immerse yourselves in classic tales. Join us for a fun week of art activities with a Storytime castle and art theme! Includes puppetry, various art projects, and fun games related to castles and the stories of yesteryear!

Artistic Tropical Paradise

July 11-15 (9 AM – 3 PM)

Ahoy mates! Join us on an imaginary trip to an ocean island! We will do many art projects related to the ocean tropics! Each child will do a clay project; a painting project; and many more art projects and games that will get them in the mood for summer and all things tropical!

BHS Varsity Cheer Clinic Camp

July 19 (10 AM-1:30 PM)
Cost: $31.75

 

Campers will be under the supervision of the BHS Head Cheerleading Coach and team members of the Varsity Cheerleading squad. This three-hour day camp will teach campers proper stretching techniques, a few cheers, and dance moves. Campers will end the clinic by practicing some tumbling and stunting.
