Seeking Volunteers To Tackle Invasive Plants in Brownsburg Parks

Brownsburg Parks seeks volunteers to participate in its annual Weed Wrangle® series and help remove invasive plant species from public spaces. The Weed Wrangle® is part of a nationwide effort to combat invasive plants, which threaten native plant life and biodiversity. Invasive plants can also cause significant harm to the environment by altering soil composition, disrupting the food chain, and even increasing the risk of wildfires.

Volunteers will be supervised while removing trees, vines, and flowering plants, and they will learn how to deal with invasive species in their own green spaces. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their work gloves, although all other necessary safety gear will be provided.

Sign up to volunteer online. Volunteers must be comfortable using cutting tools such as hedge shears, hand pruners, loppers, and pruning saws. An adult must accompany volunteers between the ages of 13 and 17.

Over 50 people volunteered during the 2023 Weed Wrangle® series.
