What an exciting year 2022 has been! We're excited to share some of our favorite moments of the year.
Record-Breaking Economic Investments in 2022
Beginning January 1, 2022, through June 2022, businesses have committed an estimated $207.8 million in capital investment in the Town, a 33 percent increase over 2021. These ventures will create more than 400 new jobs with a potential annual payroll of $19.3 million.
New Brownsburg Businesses
It has been an exciting year as more businesses move and expand in Brownsburg! We are proud to have celebrated more than 20 businesses this year with ribbon-cutting ceremonies in partnership with the Greater Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce. Next year, we're looking forward to welcoming Big Bear Biscuits, Prodigy Burger Bar, Sportsman Warehouse, Michaels, Five Below, Crumbl Cookies, and many more.
Completion of Raceway Boulevard
Raceway Blvd., connecting Ronald Reagan Parkway to E. C.R. 1000 E., opened for traffic in late September. This new road will drive economic development for the racing community in Brownsburg. Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, annexed into Brownsburg in 2011, will begin construction on its new raceway entrance soon. In addition, Garmong Construction Services has launched the development of "The Commerce Park at Brownsburg Raceway," a new 47-acre project to serve motorsports businesses and manufacturers focused on research and development.

Our community continues to be recognized nationally for our job growth, motorsports, parks & trails, schools, public safety, and many more amenities.
Stephen's Park Wins Exceptional Park Design Award
Stephens Park won the Exceptional Park Design Award for 2021 projects, awarded by the Indiana Park & Recreation Association! This 3.2-acre park has been in the Town's park system since 1998. The renovation project was developed to resolve issues with undesirable activity due to insufficient lighting and outdated features. In addition, the design addressed community needs, including accessible and inclusive play equipment while maintaining the park's original characteristics. Construction was completed in the spring of 2021. Renovations included:
- Six pickleball courts
- A year-round restroom facility
- Outdoor fitness equipment
- A paved loop path
- A universally-designed playground
Traffic Improvement Projects
Multiple critical capital projects were completed this year to improve traffic flow and safety. Construction of a roundabout at Green St. and Airport Rd. the intersection was completed in just 90 days. In addition, a traffic light was installed at Northfield Dr. and Hornaday Rd. intersection. The Town completed over $2 million in road resurfacing this year thanks partly to a grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) Community Crossings Matching Grant Program.
"Brownsburg Biohazards" Wastewater Team Places At National Competition
In May, the Town of Brownsburg hosted 11 teams from around the state for the Indiana Water Environment Association Wastewater Operator's Challenge. Our team, including Field Supervisor Matt Huckstep, Plant Operator Shane Russell, Laborer Nate Ballard, and Collection System Technician IV Jason Lewin were the highest-scoring team putting them in first place with the honor of representing Indiana at the Water Environment Federation (WEF) National Operators Competition in New Orleans in the fall.
The "Brownsburg Biohazards" received first place in Process Control and Collections within their division at the national competition. In addition, they came in fourth overall in their division.
Over $1.1 Million Awarded in Grants to the Town of Brownsburg
The Town of Brownsburg continues to save public dollars by seeking reliable funding sources. These grants funded road resurfacing, event accessibility features, Blast Off Playground renovations, communication boards at our playgrounds, water bottle refill stations in parks, police training and body cameras, and community risk reduction equipment.
Blast Off Playground Renovations
At the beginning of the year, we launched Phase 2 of Blast Off Playground renovations to update the playground structure and add new play features. The community donated over $25,000, helping us earn a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. In July, 400 volunteers and partners worked over five days to renovate the space. In spring 2023, the playground's rubber surfacing will be replaced to provide better accessibility to play areas.
Organizational Restructuring
In January, the Town Council appointed Economic Development Director Deb Cook as Town Manager. Cook became the first woman to hold the position and the only woman to lead a municipality in Hendricks County.
In addition, some civil roles within the Town of Brownsburg were combined to adjust for Town needs and growth. Since 2010, Brownsburg has grown in population by nearly 41 percent. In 2023, additional positions have been restructured as a response to the continuing development. The Town of Brownsburg currently has 243 employees, supporting administration, public safety, economic development, parks and events, and public works operations.
