Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements - Police Officer

All persons seeking employment with the Brownsburg Police Department, as a law enforcement officer must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age and comply with PERF age requirements
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Possess a valid Indiana Driver's License
  • Have a high school diploma or GED, with official transcripts obtained
  • Be a resident of Hendricks county or a contiguous county of Hendricks County, Indiana, or become a resident within one year of employment
  • If served in the armed forces of any country, demonstrate stability, reliability, and integrity, by having an Honorable or General Discharge. Acceptance of a General Discharge is dependent upon honorable circumstances and a letter of explanation must be attached to the application
  • Not be prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition
  • Be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files
  • Never been convicted of any family violence offense
  • Have never had a commission or law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked
  • Never have been convicted of a felony or currently under indictment for any criminal offense
  • Not be currently on suspension, or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect
  • Be subject to a thorough background investigation and personal interviews by Brownsburg Police Department personnel
  • Be declared in satisfactory psychological and emotional health by a psychologist, who is licensed by the Indiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
  • Demonstrate good general medical health as determined by a medical doctor, who is licensed by the Indiana State Board of Medical Examiners, and physical performance testing
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity, by successfully completing a pre-employment background investigation, truth verification testing, and drug testing
  • Demonstrate reading and comprehension skills in the English language through interviews and written testing
  • Successfully complete all required training as established by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board
  • Agree to and execute the Police Officer Training Agreement as directed by the Board of Police Commission wherein the new hire agrees to reimburse the department for training expenses incurred during their first thirty-six months of employment if separation were to occur within that time frame and under circumstances where repayment would be applicable

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Have a high school diploma or GED, with official transcripts obtained
  • Possess a valid Indiana Driver's License
  • Be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files
  • Never have been convicted of a felony and not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
  • If served in the armed forces of any country, demonstrate stability, reliability, and integrity, by having an Honorable or General Discharge. Acceptance of a General Discharge is dependent upon honorable circumstances and a letter of explanation must be attached to the application
  • Be subject to and demonstrate honesty and integrity by successfully completing a pre-employment background investigation and drug test
  • Demonstrate reading and comprehension skills in the English language through interviews and written testing
  • Successfully complete all required training
